Gallant Female Unit Breast Cancer Awareness Program

 In 2020, there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 685 000 deaths globally. As of the end of 2020, there were 7.8 million women alive who were diagnosed with breast cancer in the past 5 years, making it the world’s most prevalent cancer.



It is therefore the commitment of the Oyo State Command to contribute its quita towards the eradication of the disease. This was the reason why a Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar  was organised by the Gallant Female Unit (GFU) of the State Command on the 27th of October 2023.


Breast cancer is a disease in which abnormal breast cells grow out of control and form tumours. If left unchecked, the tumours can spread throughout the body and become fatal.

The GFU led by their O/C, ASM Salako Azeezat has made it their responsibility to create awareness, by providing information on breast cancer among women, men and students to make them understand the importance of early detection and treatment.



The program was attended by members of the GFU, female secondary school students, voluntary organizations and other members of the public.

The State Commander,  Alhaji Yekeen Lukman  while delivering his speech appreciated the the positive impact of the GFU through programs aimed at making positive impact in the public  such the recently held "Pad Her Up" program and the current Breast Cancer Awareness program.

Awareness lectures were delivered by two invited resource persons, Matron Aremu Deborah from Jericho Specialist Hospital, Ibadan and Mrs Enahoro Esther, a registered Community Health Practitioner in Ibadan.

The program ended with group photographs and an awareness walk.

PAD UP: MAN O' WAR OYO STATE COMMAND (FEMALE UNIT) CELEBRATES MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY 2022 Menstrual Hygiene Day takes place on 28 May every year. It's a chance to highlight the importance of menstrual care, and raise awareness about the issues faced by those who don't have access to sanitary products. Voluntary organisations, Nonprofits government agencies, the private sector, the media, and individuals come together to celebrate Menstrual Hygiene Day and advocate for the importance of good menstrual hygiene management.
